Kirsten Dunsts early modeling gig: A Baby-Sitters Club book cover!

Kirsten Dunst may be a famous actress now, but at one point in time, her claim to fame was having been baby-sat by a member of "The Baby-Sitters Club."

OK, not literally (because it's a fictional club, obviously). But Dunst did appear on the cover of one of Ann M. Martin's famous books about a band of middle-school sitters.

Fans of the series for preteens may remember the cover of "Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls," which shows funky BSC member Claudia Kishi holding a blond toddler. Sure enough, that toddler was modeled after Dunst herself, in her years before "Interview with the Vampire" (in which she spookily played a preteen vamp named Claudia).

"Actually, my first cover was a book in the 'Baby-Sitters Club' series, Claudia Gets a Phantom Phone Call," she told Parade in 2008 (BuzzFeed recirculated the quote this week in as part of "12 Facts About 'The Baby-Sitters Club' That Will Blow Your Mind").

And it appears the 30-year-old "Melancholia" star is not entirely proud of her appearance on the 1986 book cover.

"I was a child model/actress and I did it strictly for the money," she said.

Dunst is no stranger to flashbacks. At the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, she was regaled with a song from her 2000 comedy "Bring It On." Luckily, Dunst seems to have grown up, and she took it in stride.
